Claims Notification – the “claims made” Contract

Directors’ and Officers’ insurance operates on a “claims made” basis. The policy that will respond to a claim is the policy that is in place when the claim is made and notified to the insurers.

Importantly therefore, any event that may give rise to a claim must be reported to the insurers before the expiry of the policy period. If the event does result in a claim, then the insurers will provide cover subject to the terms and limits of the policy in place at the time.
